The Patience of My Son
Some time back I was showing my three-year-old son a short video on Youtube. I don’t often do this, so needless to say he was excited. The internet connection was slow so the video paused and the white circle in the middle of the screen appeared, to show the video was buffering. He panicked, ”BABA! NOT WORKIIIIIIING!” One of the virtues that I really hope for my kids to have is patience and I tried to teach him a lesson, “Son, have patience please.” The video started again only to stop again and for the white circle to reappear. ”BABA! NOT WORKIIIIIIING!” “Have Patience.” The process happened a few more times throughout the video. Each time, he expressed his frustration with the same appeal, “BABA! NOT WORKING,” and I would give him the same reply, “Have Patience.” Then, the video abruptly halted and the white circle became a permanent icon. Discovering that the video wasn’t coming back, he was desperate for a solution. “Baba, what does patience mean?” I was a proud father as I felt he was picking up one life’s greatest virtues. I tried to encourage him to come up with it on his own, “What do you think it means?” The light went off in his head. “I know . . . it’s that white circle.”

As-salaam alaykum Warahamatullah Wabarakatuh
This article spoke to me. I was boiling with anger five minutes ago. And once I saw the topic I knew it was meant for me. How much one can learn from kids, if we are not too proud.
Jazakllahu khayran for sharing.
