Ilyas Ba-Yunus - Pioneer MSA and ISNA Activist & Leader Passes Away - ISNA.net

From one early orbituary note: For those who do not know him, Dr Ba-yunus was one of the early pioneers of MSA in the 60’s. He served as president of MSA National from 1968-1969, president of AMSS from 1975-1976 and president of ISNA from 1983-1985. He was a professor of Sociology at SUNY Cortland prior to retirement. One of the oft quoted statistics about divorce rates amongst Muslims in North America comes from an early study done by Dr Ba-yunus.

From INSA’s site:

Dr. Ilyas Ba-Yunus, IMF Chairman

Dr. Ba-Yunus served as President for ISNA from 1983-1985. Prior to
this he served as President of the AMSS from 1975-1976 and as President
of the MSA from 1968 - 1969.

Dr. Ba-Yunus is a native of Pakistan and currently resides in New York.

He has published several articles with the Islamic Sociology on the topic of Muslims in North America.

May Allah Most High grant him the highest of Paradise. May He accept his good works and multiply them beyond imagination, and overlook any shortcomings and errors. May Allah Most High make his family and us living examples of the hadith of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), “If the child of Adam dies their actions end, except from three,” and he mentioned from them, “A righteous child who supplicates for them.”
